Download it on PS5, Switch, Xbox or Steam. Covers the opening Paris Streets chapter, where the demo ends, and if progress carries over.
Castlevania Belmont's Curse Demo Guide: How to Play
The free Castlevania: Belmont's Curse demo launched on 1 October 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Steam. It is the opening chapter of the full game: the burning streets of Paris, the sewers beneath them, and one boss. Progress transfers into the full version, which launches 15 October 2026, so playing it first costs you nothing but half an hour.
Everything here is written from the demo as of 2026-10-05. Anything about the full game beyond that date is marked unannounced, not guessed.

Where to download the Belmont's Curse demo
Konami ships the same demo from four storefronts, free on every one.
| Platform | Where the demo lives | Size | Frame rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | PlayStation Store, a separate free demo listing | 6 GB | 60 fps |
| Xbox Series X|S | Microsoft Store, a free demo listing | 5 GB | 60 fps |
| Steam (Windows) | Demo link on the full game's store page | 4 GB | 60 fps |
| Nintendo Switch | eShop, on the game's Switch product page | 3 GB | 30 fps, locked |
Official source: Castlevania: Belmont's Curse demo page — the platform list, download sizes, frame-rate split and transfer conditions are quoted from there.
Switch 2 owners should know Konami has announced no native Switch 2 edition. The Switch build does run on Switch 2 hardware at roughly 60fps instead of the locked 30, at unchanged 1080p output, though some players report it still feeling like 30. The Switch 2 breakdown has both sides.
Media source: Nintendo Life on the demo going live — the outlet that reported the Switch 2 frame-rate boost.
The demo carries the same language set as the full game; only Japanese and English are fully voiced.
How long is the demo, and how far does it go?
Konami calls it "a demo featuring the opening chapter of the game". Nobody has published an official playtime, so treat these figures as a range.
| Reported length | Source |
|---|---|
| 15–30 min | Reddit player estimates |
| ~45 min | AltChar hands-on session |
| 30–45 min | TrueAchievements listing |
Budget roughly 30 to 45 minutes for a straight run. Go slower and you will still find things: destructible secret walls, areas locked until you gain a specific ability, and one hidden weapon that takes a deliberate detour.
| What the demo gives you | Detail |
|---|---|
| Playable character | Rose Belmont only; Trevor is an NPC |
| Bosses | One: The Fallen, officially the first threat Rose meets in the sewers |
| Weapons | Two: the starting Longsword, plus the hidden Cestus |
| Traversal | Arcana Whip grapple onto golden and purple Anchors |
| Progression | Arcana cards: a beaten boss is sealed into Rose's deck and becomes a spell plus a special action |
| Save points | Mirror of Life; the next room is the Sewer Reservoir |
Official source: PlayStation Blog hands-on report — the grapple, weapon behaviour and Arcana conversion are described there.
The Arcana Whip is granted after that boss, and the whip opens most of the demo's optional routes, including the Cestus. The ordered walkthrough has the route; the boss guide for The Fallen has the Holy Cross timing if that fight is your wall.
Does demo progress carry over to the full game?
Yes, with conditions. Konami publishes five notes on the demo page — one promise and four conditions.
| Konami's note | What it means |
|---|---|
| Save data can be transferred to the full version | Your progress is not thrown away |
| Demo and full version must use the same platform and account | A PS5 demo save does not move to Steam or Xbox |
| Demo save data must be retained to transfer progress | Uninstalling the demo can cost you the run |
| Certain features and content may be restricted in the demo | What you see is not a complete picture |
| The full version must be updated to its latest version | Patch the full game on day one if you want the transfer to take |
What actually transfers is not specified. Konami never says whether your level, weapons or tarot cards come across, so do not plan around any item surviving the jump. The save transfer rules page covers the failure modes that quietly break a transfer.
The transfer depends on the demo save still existing on the same account. Keep the demo installed and the account signed in — this is the most common way people lose demo progress.
What the demo does not tell you
Konami's disclaimer that "certain features and content may be restricted in the demo version" is doing real work — numbers circulating online describe the full game, not what you can play today.
| Topic | Confirmed in the demo | Announced for the full game, not playable yet |
|---|---|---|
| Weapons | Two: Longsword, Cestus | Seven categories; the other five unnamed |
| Bosses | The Fallen only | Joan of Arc, Medusa, Isaac, Carmilla and Death named; stages unannounced |
| Relics | System exists, up to three equipped | Full relic list unannounced |
| Arcana | One card, from beating The Fallen | Complete tarot roster unannounced |
| Playable characters | Rose | Nobody else announced |
Level count, map size, the final weapon roster, the full Arcana deck, endings and the achievement list are all unannounced. The full game launches 15 October 2026 at $29.99 for Standard and $39.99 for the Midnight Edition — the release date and platforms page has the date, and Midnight Edition compared has what the extra ten dollars buys.
Is the demo worth playing first?
Player reaction is sharply divided on art style, music and how talkative Rose is — exactly the argument you cannot settle from a trailer.
| If you are | Play the demo because |
|---|---|
| Undecided about the art direction | Half an hour of footage settles more than a month of forum argument |
| A Dead Cells or Rogue Prince of Persia player | The movement and combat cadence come from Evil Empire, and the demo confirms it fast |
| Choosing between platforms | The demo is free on all four, so test the one you would buy |
| On original Switch hardware only | It is locked at 30fps, and the fight timing is tighter than that deserves |
| Unsure what genre this is | Mirror of Life saves, key gating and destructible walls speak for themselves; Konami has stated it is not a roguelike |
Rough edges to know before you blame the game: players report long loading between room transitions, low audio, frame-rate dips and poor handheld audio balance on Switch — community reports as of 2026-10-05, no official patch confirmed. If your PC build opens to a black screen, the black screen fixes come first, and the FPS and settings order covers frame rate and resolution. Everything else is in the demo troubleshooting hub; if you are still weighing the purchase, the demo verdict by player type goes further.
One warning on the hidden weapon: the Cestus route depends entirely on having the whip, so it is missable by accident rather than by design. Exact route.
FAQ
Is the demo free? Yes, on all four platforms, no trial timer.
How long does it take? Roughly 30 to 45 minutes, longer with the Cestus detour. No official figure exists.
Where does the demo end? At The Fallen, the sewer boss and the demo's only fight. Beating it grants the Arcana Whip and opens the remaining optional routes.
Will my demo save carry into the full game? Konami says yes, if the demo and full game share a platform and account, the demo save is retained, and the full version is updated. How much moves is not specified.
Can I move a PS5 demo save to Steam? No. Konami requires the same platform and account.
Does it run on Switch 2? Yes, through backward compatibility, at roughly 60fps. No native Switch 2 edition has been announced.
